Can someone point me in the direction of PERL resources on Demon or elsewhere. I am looking for an introduction to the language including programming instructions. I need to make a multi page form with if else equivalents to mail information into a server. CHRIS -- Chris Wilkinson

Thanks for that. Can anyone recomend ports to DOS/Win for use either
as a practical tool or just for learning? Or must I build a Linux
box do do this properly?

They vary in age and may be pre version 5. The DOS version does however appear to be Perl 5. CPAN - Comprehensive Perl Archive Network - 'All the Perl material you will need'. - There is about 600Mb. -- Malcolm S. Muir Demon Internet Ltd. Many thanks. I guess I'll need to look for a CD (Walnut Creek?)
befofore I can explore the majority of this.

I haven't read Learning Perl, only Programming Perl. And I have to say that
Programming Perl is almost essential if you want to get anywhere with it.
My heavily thumbed copy is testimony to that!

It's not necessary, although you may prefer it in the long run. There are
ports to many platforms. There's a DOS version and also a Win32 version.
Both are kept relatively up to date with the official versions.
For more info take a look at http://www.perl.com/

Having a copy myself, I'm not so sure. Once I twigged perldoc, and the
way the eletronic manual is organized, I started using that instead.
If I'm programing perl, I've got a computer with perldoc. I may not
have Programming Perl.
Of course, I don't mind eletronic docs for reference, but others may.

Well some people seem to prefer electronic docs, but most (by no means all,
but most) people that I've talked to about this sort of thing do prefer
printed docs.
I certainly do, as I like to keep my screen completely with the code, and
be able to simultaneously type as I am reading bits of info from the book
that's sitting open next to the PC on the desk here.
But this is verging off-topic, so FU poster.
