I am currently in the process of coding an NNTP client for my colleges LAN, but I have a problem. I can read the messages on the server, but I don't know how to group them into threads for display. Any help would be appreciated, Mark. mark_thomas@bigfoot.com

After much consideration Mark Thomas decided to share these wise words:

I don't think there is a definitive answer on how to do this.
You get a few clues, and you just have to use them to get a result you
like:
+ the Subject: line, (less any 're:' style prefixes)
+ the References: line which should list the previous articles in the
thread, but may be broken and list them in a different order or just
the first article or an the article actually being responded to.
+ the time/date stamp may help too.
Cheers.

One other option is to look at how others have done it and
'borrow' some ideas :-) Snews 1.3 threads articles quite
reasonably by Subject: lines, and it's source is available
on Demon's FTP server -
/pub/demon/ibmpc/dos/files/source/snws130s.zip
Just a thought.
