Hiya,
Does everyone receive vast amounts of spam from yahoo and aol addresses
(in particular) offering viagra to oral fixated teenagers, and everything
in between?
By editing smtp.conf (I'm using basically one of the later disa Amitcp
installations) I can block everything from aol for instance, but is there
a way of allowing a specific aol address to be accepted, and all the rest
rejected?
Thought not.
I blame Phil, and Getmail!!! ;)
Seriously, if you guys are having to deal with this sort of thing too,
please tell me what measures you are taking.
Hope you're all well - cheers.
All the best,
Angus Manwaring. (for e-mail remove ANTISPEM)

Running SpamAssassin, basically...
(Unfortunately, this rather requires a *ix box of some description to
be acting as a mail server for your miggy.)

So much now that I'm seriously thinking of dunping this address and
asking Demon for a new one.

Wrong! Getmail 2.32 21/04/98 accepts first, rejects second.
Mine is a script file 29022 bytes size.

You could just pick a new username and refuse mail addressed to the old one? dont know how feasible that is with the software you have though? Is there never any pressure amongst demon customers for demon to adopt the stance of a spam deleter? It would be nice if they ran SpamAssassin or something similar on their servers, and thus your mailbox didnt fill up with junk in the first place. I'm thinking it would be nice if MY isp did this (they dont have a public forum alas) because even though I dont use my normal email address on usenet I used it on a couple of mailing lists a while ago and now I get huge amounts of spam anyway. Its manageable if I check email every day but next year I will likely go sailing again and will have to change my email address as the mailbox will fill very quickly. I dont actually dial my ISP much because their system doesnt have PPP compression available but its a shame because they are free and I'm fairly comfortable there otherwise. iain

I reject most of it automatically but it still takes time. I realised I
was losing the battle when mail took longer to deal with than news. I
have many usernames for different uses alredy.

It seems to be against Demon's policy to censor mail or news (well
except for free.* anyroadup).

Do you want it back? You sent it to me early February last year. I'm
sure you sent it to Angus a few days earlier. It's an ARexx script.

I used to run the script through a utility that "converted" it into an executable, but I remember not bothering to do that with the last few versions, as they were only distributed on request. -- Phil
