Hello Guys,

Just finished installing Amitcp-v4.0-demo and Netdial but despite ringing
the number and sending password the connection failed because of problems
with the protocol.

Any ideas where I should start looking?

I'm guessing, but if you installed the demo, not the proper installer 
for Demon, it'll be running SLIP, which I think Demon don't do any more. 
Try again with PPP of some flavour (again, I think the Demo doesn't have 
PPP)

This did cross my mind, so I will try it.

Another problem has arisen - Amitcp won't run with any other program and
vise versa - both say they can't connect with the serial.device, if
something else is running.

Yeah, ISTR having to perform some black magic to make the serial device 
keep the line up after dialling, while you initialised the SLIP one.

Get PPP, try again ;-)
