Hard drive 4 gig limit SFS advice

Hi all, I've posted this to c.s.a.misc but I'm betting (even in it
depleted state) the disa crowd can take 'em any day.

Well, its worth a try.... :)

My friend Ian who is a prolific WHDLoad patcher, but doesn't
currently have Usenet access has got a bit of a problem about the route he
should take with a new (large) hard drive. If anybody has any advice or
experience with SFS, could they post it here and I'll forward it to him.

Many thanks - take it away Ian.....

OK my HD is playing up big time, have to leave the amiga on for about
2 hours before i can use it, otherwise nothing but r/w errors.

After a few hours it seems to be warmed up/stable and I can do normal
stuff.

Next day it's back to what it was...

So I thought the HD is f***ed and bought a new 30 gig 2.5" drive (very
quiet and small!)

But with OS3.0 it only sees it as an 8 gig drive and wants to format it to 2
partitions of 4 gig each.

So I'm deciding what to do. Tempted to just install SFS (smart file system
from aminet - still being developed unlike PFS3) and use that and then I can
hopefully see the whole drive...

Any thoughts? I don't want to waste 20 gig when I could put ALL my amiga
games on it for fast access! :)

                  All the best,
Angus Manwaring. (for e-mail remove ANTISPEM)

Does amiga.com still have the 64-bit trackdisk.device drivers? I think
those are what you need...

Thanks Adam. Ian thinks that is what he needs too, but has had no luck
with the amiga.com site which he had some problems with.

Would anyone know if they are available anywhere else?

Many cheers. :)

I'd be inclined to check Aminet.
