No, not since I solved the ascend problem. I do not bother with HSMODEM for NOS in case this is relevent (I *have* to have it for STiK otherwise it never gets past "resolving host"). On a very few occasions, I do get a line drop but I have no reason to suspect MagiC for this as it seems to coincide with times when demon have problems. There was something in the demon PC thread concerning initial low signal levels from ascends. There is some concern as whether USR modems are taking exception to this. >Also how do you manage to get NOS to find the news path? You need to pass it in the command line with a -d switch. Using Ease, I have it set up as single tasking with the predefined command line: -d G:\OASIS -s 40 startup.nos I forget what the -s 40 does ... From main.c, I see that it sets the number of sockets so I suppose it is a good idea not to forget it! >>#^^^ I had problems with automatic dialling, lots of dropped lines >>#soon after login. Tying it to a function key reduces it (why?) Who >>#cares, it works! > >Were you using the "F10 <enter> sequence" listed in the FAQ? This is something I must have missed. Could you explain? Originally, I just left the "dial" line at the end of STARTUP.NOS and this seems to cause wierd line drops and garbled characters instead of the login sequence, so I took it out and put it on a function key which I press a couple of seconds after NOS has started. > >BTW thanks for taking the trouble - I found a couple of useful hints. No problem. If you find any better ways to do anything please post them here! __ Guy Harrison guy@swampdog.demon.co.uk
