IE5: Organise Favourites
#63

A few weeks ago I upgraded to IE5 (customised Demon version) and have
been pleased at the results. However, I have only just become aware of
problems associated with the Organise Favourites function.

Now, when I go to Favourites/Organise in the IE5 screen drop
down menu the dialogue invites me to select the item I want to operate
on (eg Rename, Move or Delete). But the list of items has vanished from
the screen; so how am I supposed to "select" one or more of them?

Have I missed something obvious? I found this function quite
simple to use in IE4 and could well have done without it being the
subject of MS ideas on "improvements". Incidentally, the IE5 help index
entry for "organise favourites" seems to imply that the procedures are
still the same as in IE4.

I have also noted that Add and Organise icons now appear at the
top of the list which drops down when the Favourites button on the IE5
toolbar is clicked. Useful I suppose, but I can't get Organise to work
in that mode either. 8-(

        All help gratefully received.

My IE5 Organise Favourites dialogue has the buttons in the left-hand
half and a list of folders and links in the right-hand half. However,
the size of the dialogue can be changed by dragging its edges.

Could it be that your IE5 dialogue is too narrow, and it just needs
making wider ?

Mine would seem to be broken. It only displays the left-hand side (ie
the buttons).

Unfortunately, no luck. I have tried expanding to full width; still only
the buttons can be seen. 8-(

Any other possible fixes known? If not, I suppose I will have to try a
reinstall of IE5 v.5.00.2014.0216IS from the @demon freebies CD.

What operating system do you use? In mine I can use Explorer to get at
the Favorites under user profile, where they appear as ordinary files,
and move them around at will.

Windows95 v4.0.950 B. I have also used Win Explorer to operate on the
files in C:\WINDOWS\Favorites in the usual Windows fashion.

But, when I am browsing offline I prefer to use IE's own organise
favourites routine. This used to work fine under IEv4.0 4.72.2106.8. The
update to IE5 seems to have screwed things up in this regard.

(I have also come across one or two other oddities in IE screens since
the update on which I may have to seek advice in a separate thread. For
the time being, one problem at a time is my motto nowadays.) 8-)
