I've just upgraded from Outlook Express to Outlook 2000 (5). Now when I try to download my mail from demons POP3 servers, my password is not recognised. I still have Outlook Express on my machine and the password is recognised in that program. Other mail accounts work fine under 2000, as does my news account. I selected to import all my emails into Outlook 2000 and that worked fine, and all accounts were imnported fine apart from my Demon POP3. All help welcome, Thanks Slate slate@rozak.yourpants.demon.co.uk Remove yourpants to reply by mail

Have you remembered that if you use a normal dialup password for POP3 you have to be dialled into Demon in order to collect your mail? If dialled in via another ISP you need to set a special POP3 password in order to collect demon email. >All help welcome, >Thanks >Slate >slate@rozak.yourpants.demon.co.uk > >Remove yourpants to reply by mail I bet the owners (or potential future owners) of yourpants.demon.co.uk are just going to love you for pulling a stunt like that - take a look at Demon's AUP and see the newuser FAQ for ideas on spam trapping that won't get you into trouble with Demon's abuse team. -- Paul Terry

Ahh, not so. I already dial in through another ISP (Worldonline) and have been collecting my Demon email through that connection for weeks using Outlook Express. It is only since the upgrade to Outlook 2000 that it has stopped working. Nothing else has changed, and I can still collect my Demon mail with Outlook Express, when I dial in through Worldonline's servers. Maybe this is just something that is more secure in Outlook 2000. Should I try using the password that I use for Demon's Webmail service? > I bet the owners (or potential future owners) of yourpants.demon.co.uk > are just going to love you for pulling a stunt like that - take a look > at Demon's AUP and see the newuser FAQ for ideas on spam trapping that > won't get you into trouble with Demon's abuse team. Have a sense of humour (I have been a Demon subscriber for about 6 years now). Regards, slate (at work) Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Eh? I suggest you read Demon's POP3 FAQ: http://www.demon.net/info/helpdesk/demon_products/mail/index.shtml Here is a quote from that document: A significant advantage of POP3 is that you can read your e-mail from anywhere on the Internet that you can run a POP3 client, without having to dial in to Demon ... To use this feature, you will need to set up a separate POP3 password. This must be done from your own Demon dial-up host, and you will not be able to use POP3 from elsewhere until you have set it up. From what you say below it sounds like you *have* been using a POP3 (i.e. Webmail) password in Outlook Express, but you haven't yet tried it in Outlook. >I already dial in through another ISP (Worldonline) and >have been collecting my Demon email through that connection for weeks >using Outlook Express. Then I think you must have been using a POP3 password. Demon have always been clear that a dialup password cannot be used for this - it is too risky, since the password has to be sent in plain text and the last thing you would want is a plain text dialup password being sent across the Internet. >Should I try using the password that I use for Demon's Webmail service? Yes. That *is* the POP3 password - the only one that will work for remote access to your mail. >> I bet the owners (or potential future owners) of yourpants.demon.co.uk >> are just going to love you for pulling a stunt like that - take a look >> at Demon's AUP and see the newuser FAQ for ideas on spam trapping that >> won't get you into trouble with Demon's abuse team. >Have a sense of humour Removing "yourpants" is far too weary a joke for it to be in the slightest bit humorous. I think you are wise to abandon the idea. -- Paul Terry
