In general, I'd advise asking on uk.comp.sys.mac, which is where most of
the Mac users (including Dmeon ones) now hang out. It's friendly, well
informed, and larger than here.

Specifically:

The best think you can do for your Mac, of whatever vintage, is to put in
the most RAM you can afford, or the most it can handle. It makes a lot of
difference. To find out how much that might be, as I said, ask on
uk.comp.sys.mac.

Netscape: either Communicator (larger, includes mail and News etc) or
Navigator (the browser). I use Navigator 4.08, which was on the MacFormat
cover disk this month.

Fetch 3.0.3. There may well be a later version.

NewsHopper is now out of production. MacSOUP is the current favourite.
Version 2.4.5, I think.
ftp://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/computing/systems/mac/info-mac//comm/inet/macsoup-245.hqx
will probably find it.

Norton: best to get version 5 which is the latest.

Good luck.
