My experience (YMMV) is that you should first filter our (delete) all
theose people/subjects you don't like from the newsgroups that are set to
"subject/author only" then apply the filter ".*", not " *" as I suggested
earlier to the subject line to mark all the remaining articles for
download.

However, if you do this, any attempt to place a filter on the header
information after the ".*" seems to be ignored, filters which work on items
in the header must precede all the other filters.
