If you mark an old article for download the news server will reply that the article is no longer available, and as there is nothing NewsHopper can do once the server says so, the article reference will be deleted and of course no new article will appear in the newsfile. There has been absolutely no report of NewsHopper crashing when such a scenario happens. This could easily be tested because of a bug in NNTPd that causes the server to sometimes reply that _all_ the articles are unavailable. If the articles you download are still on the server (the "Bytes Received" count is more than a few bytes per article), they are immediately saved in the newsfile, so maybe you use some kind of SCSI driver software that caches a lot of stuff in memory. >Could this problem be caused by either big database files (approx. 35 Mb) >or large numbers of headers (approx. 4500) in newsgroups? Have you increased NewsHopper's memory partition ? With a newsfile that big, you will need to allocate at least 3 or 4M for NewsHopper. >PS. When are you going to release version 1.1 & will it contain a new >manual or just an addition? NewsHopper 1.1, scheduled for March, will come with a new manual, and will be available free of charge (electronically) for users having purchased 1.0. The demo version will also be updated to 1.1. -- Laurent Humbert SW15 Software
