The fact that you can get though to Green seems to indicate that there's
nothing fundamentally wrong with your setup. However, it does use different
Network Access Servers (3Comm type) from the SmurfRomps (which use
Ascends).

The most likely thing is that you are getting voice messge which you're not
hearing because it's very quiet. If I dial those numbers from my Telewest
line, I hear "Sorry, the number you have dialled is not available".

If I plug into a BT line, it negotiates and connects okay, although as I am
not signed up to Demon for this, it then asks me for a logon name and
password which *would* work.

It sounds to me as though you are hitting a voice message of some kind.
