I'm running 8.5.1 (the most fireproof system I have known, and my first Mac was a 512K) on a beige G3 and installing SpeedDoubler made quite a difference. I'm using Ram Doubler too, although I gather you must instal the 9.something patch that Connectix have available if you want to use this with MS MacOffice. On the question of overload Shane Badham notes: >Its the surftime numbers. They are definitely overloaded. >I have started changing to the standard line when it clogs up. I don't have a Surftime agreement ( I'm waiting for ADSL but no-one seems to care) but I use the Surftime numbers most of the time because they are allegedly much cheaper, even without a Surftime deal. When they are overloaded, usually after 6.30 at night, I switch to the standard number, and rely on Friends and Family to bear some of the strain. I have the various connection options listed in Free PPP setup, which itself is one of the selections on another bit of invaluable software, PPP menu 2.03 produced by Rockstar, which is one little accessory I'd be loathe to do without. Under this menu, apart from FreePPP setup I also have the various 'net programs - Eudora, MacSoup, IE and OE, together with the Notepad and Applescripts like the invaluable Get & Send Mail. Now, I can fire any one or more at the click of the mouse. -- defrag address to reply
