Hi, I'm new to newsgroups, and tried looking for my problem in this group, but didn't find it. I found some Questions and Answers about sending attachments to PC's, but I guess I'm just not that bright , 'cause I didn't understand...... Hope this group doesn't hate amateurs........... I have an OS 8.5 and tried Emailing something I'd typed on Appleworks to a PC (as as attachment) and the recipient told me it came out gibberish. I was using Outlook Express. Should I try it with Netscape Navigator? Or is this because I used Appleworks? Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks, Patty

This is almost certainly because they can't read Appleworks files. When you send them an Appleworks file, instead of simply saving it, use "Save As" from the File menu, and under "File formats" choose RTF, or Rich Text Format. Make sure that the name is of the form "filename.rtf" otherwise the PC won't recognise it for what it is. If your version of Appleworks won't save as RTF (v.6.0 didn't, later ones do) see if it offers you some version of Word. If you save as a Word document, be sure it has the right extension- "Filename.doc"- otherwise once more the PC will have problems recognising it. If it doesn't offer you any of these choices (from what I can remember, V.6.0 is very limited, later versions are fine), it is probably time to upgrade your version of Appleworks. You can do this for free, although it's quite a large download. But in that case ask again. >Hope this group doesn't hate amateurs........... We are all amateurs, helping each other out. However, this particular group has fallen into disuse because there is a very active, much larger Mac newsgroup where all the Demon users have migrated. Do try it, it's: uk.comp.sys.mac You'd be most welcome there. It's full of helpful people. If your problem persists, do ask there. -- Peter
