I have just changed from pc to mac (hooray! hooray!) and the one fly in my ointment is thta I can't take turnpike with me. I loved turnpike. I loved the interface, the limitless mailboxes and personalities, and most of all I loved the newsreader, which was absolutely perfect in every respect. can anyone recommend a similar program for mac? I'm using the mozilla suite at the moment, which is ok, but not a patch on turnpike. any help will be very gratefully received... many thanks, sophie

Strangely I don't have a Mac of my own, and one reason could be the lack of Turnpike. Have a look at Thunderbird as an alternative. I haven't used this program myself, but a lot of people have said that it is really good. http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/all.html If you want, I can check with some of my Mac colleagues at work and see what they are using for Mail/News. The Macintosh habit is, rather than have one program which does everything, to have one program for mail, one for news, one for FTP,ur etc.. Personally I like Apple's own Mail program a lot and I use a very old copy of Fetch (version 3) for FTP. There's a lot of argument about what usenet programs are good. I think you could profit from reading uk.comp.sys.mac, since that's where most Macintosh Demonites hang out. That group has more or less supplanted this one unless your problems are purely to do with Demon. Simon. -- Using pre-release version of newsreader. Please tell me if it does weird things.

I'm actually using thunderbird at the moment, and it's ok, but it's _not_ turnpike by any stretch of the imagination. I like mozilla generally (I use firefox and before that firebird); and I suspect Thunderbird is pretty good compared to much email and newsreader software, but it hasn't got Turnpike's infinite flexibility with mail, and I've never come across a newsreader that isn't far too like outlook around the edges, Turnpike's newsreader is in a class of its own. I'm going to trial Unison next I think; after that I can see that running Turnpike on Virtual PC (if at all possible) might be my only option... In every other way I much prefer the mac - I haven't been able to afford one before, but the old pc finally died and the mac mini has come out. I've been wanting one since college (art & design) & my other half is evangelical about them (music technology), but I hadn't realised how much I like Turnpike! thanks for the response, I appreciate it. Sophie

I was going to KVM it over with my PC. I am going to need a new computer soon, and that looks like the best option for me, especially with the video stuff I would love to have a play at.
