connecting 2 macs - help

I'm trying to get a Powermac and a G3 to share files
with ethernet cable.
But the other computer doesn't show up in the chooser
under Appleshare, there is nothing in the window.

Appletalk is active.
File sharing is active.
user names are set up.
the cable is good.

What else am I doing wrong?

thanks so much for any tips.

George

Do you have Ethernet selected in the Appletalk Control Panel on both
computers? Daft question maybe?

Are you using a direct cable (it needs to be x-over if it is) or a hub?

Try turning Appletalk off on both machines, restart them, then turn
Appletalk on again on both, I used to have to do this occasionally when
connecting PMac to G3, now I have G3 to iMac I've not had to do it ...
maybe just a quirk?
