using the D-fax service on a Mac?

Does anyone know how to get Demon's D-Fax service to work with a Mac? It
appears the TIFF files their server sends can't be opened by anything I've
tried. Possibly to do with the fact that they are 'multi-page' TIFFs?
Or perhaps it is because these are received using Outlook Express 4.5. (No
rude comments, please! ;-)
However, I'm really not sure what app I should use to open these files - I
think that might be the real problem, rather than what email client is
used to get them.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd be *very* glad to hear them!

You're right. Try GraphicConverter. 3.8 is the latest version, on info-mac
archives:

Locally on:
ftp://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/computing/systems/mac/info-mac//gst/grf/graphic-converter-38-us.hqx

Or the author's site: http://www.lemkesoft.com

You want the US version.

Or on a cover disk near you- MacFormat have it this month.

It's shareware, $30, worth every cent.

It handles multi-page TIFFs fine.

I bought GraphicConverter but use Tiff-Sight for reading faxes. I prefer
the simpler interface and if you don't need all the features of
GraphicConverter it's cheaper at $10.
Try both. http://www.blueglobe.com/~cliffmcc/tiffsight.html

Indeed; if that's the only requirement, you are right. But I think that no
Mac should be without GraphicConverter anyway; I don't use the Fax service,
but I use GC a great deal for all kinds of messing about with graphics
files.

I agree GC is a must if you use graphics. It opens files that even
Photoshop cant!

However if do get any faxes to date they have been junk. The last one
never had an image! Ive queried the help desk on that.

If this continues with junk faxes I will have it deleted.

Some versions of Outlook Express had a bug which corrupted DFAX file
attachments. I don't know if this bug is still present in OE 4.5. If you
can't open the attachments with GraphicConverter (excellent shareware) this
is probably the problem.

It's OE 4.5 that chews them into unreadable garbage without telling you.
Microsoft aggressively denied this last year when lots of people complained,
but the fact is that they've sneakily gone ahead and fixed the bug in OE5.
So upgrade to OE5 & then you can open your faxes with GraphicConverter, JFax
Communicator etc.
