Hi my Win95 crashed and it seems there is an invalid setting in the MSDOS.SYS file. I tried rebooting from the startup disk it kind of worked... I was told to type :::::> sys c: to fix the problem but I still cant start up windows. It says it cant find HIMEM.SYS but it is in its directory. Any ideas please? I have an old HDD with the same version of Windows 95 and MSDOS.SYS exists there - can I copy this to the new HDD that is having trouble? I tried using someone elses file but as it was another pc it didnt take or accept it. Alternatively there exists the old MSDOS.BAK on the system can I rename this as the new MSDOS.SYS to replace it? thanks... if you could email an answer please send to ea@ozemail.com.au regards Andrew

What exactly do you mean by 'it is in its directory' - which directory? What makes you think MSDOS.SYS is wrong? The main things in there are the windows paths - are they correct? e.g. [Paths] WinDir=C:\WINDOWS WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS HostWinBootDrv=C Can you boot to DOS without the startup floppy - using the F8 menu? If you can, what happens if you run 'win.com' from the windows directory? Geoff -- Geoff Rhodes
