Blue Screen of death aka Fatal exception error

I used to get the fatal exception error in Win95 only very rarely, usually
when I'd done something exceptionally stupid with a program. Recently,
though, the errors have been happening much more frequently, and now they
are even more often freezing the computer and requiring a reboot. I have
recently installed a new mouse, with a set of programs to utilise the extra
buttons, and I suspect that this is a possible cause. Unfortunately,
microsoft support has absolutely nothing of use, the only related problems
involving programs that have never been on this computer, so I've decided to
try this.

I'm sure this is a pretty common problem people occur, so does anyone have a
nice list of ideas as to what's gone wrong and how I can possibly fix this?

Thanks,

Chris

It could be, your new mouse sounds much younger than W95. Try going to
the MS site and getting all the patches to bring your OS as up to date
as W95 ever will be now, and check with the mouse manufacturer's site
for a W95 driver. Another good bet is that the mouse install program has
pinched an IRQ which is already in use. If you right click in the main
window of My Computer and look up 'properties' you can check them all.
