Are any other Demon customers finding that any htaccess password protected
areas of their sites have suddently started displaying Internal Server
Errors when you try to access them?

I have now discovered that Demon have recently upgraded the Apache servers.
Other people with this problem need to amend the .htaccess file by enclosing
the AuthName in inverted commas.

eg:

AuthName Members Only

changes to
AuthName "Members Only"

Was this change announced anywhere by Demon? In my experience they
don't appear to announce such changes. You first know about them
when things start failing to work as expected.

To be fair, I think the AuthName directive has required for some
time (certainly in 1.3) that any argument with whitespace should be
double-quoted; perhaps you were just lucky before. But I do agree that
Demon should notify us of any changes. Having gone to (presumably)
a significant amount of effort to upgrade Apache, a newsgroup posting
would be fairly trivial...
