Has anyone else noticed telnet access to uk-upload.demon.co.uk being
incredibly slow over the last few days?

Yes indeed, yet again.

now you mention it, yes... it was slow when i last connected - i think on
tuesday afternoon...

just tried it again at the time of posting... took a while for the login
prompt to appear, an age to check the password after i entered it, and
zipping up a few log files took an age as well... (8 megabytes of log files
took 2 minutes 20 secs)

characters are echoed back very promptly, pinging shows 0% packet loss and a
quick response time... don't know if it's connected but i also see that the
simple search cgi on our site is going very slowly...

possibly one of our fellow users running dodgy cgis again? or maybe there's
some problem with the machine...

Yes indeed; well, not telnet access, but simply trying to log in to FTP
something took *ages* (yesterday at around 18:30).

Ditto with a cd command, but oddly enough the upward transfers took place
at flat-out speed.

You might be pleased to know we're in the process of ordering new
equipment to replace this machine right now.

Pleased indeed. It seems to be going from bad to worse - now I get:

telnetd: could not open slave pty.
    Connection closed by foreign host.

when trying to telnet in. It does make uploading to the web site tricky...

Not odd - completely in line with what I'd expect given the problems on
the machine :)
