i haven't yet called commercial support about this - i'm just wondering whether it is worth doing so... we have two domain names hosted by demon, our main domain name, and an additional one we bought which is only pointing at the site because it was cheaper to do that than have it parked... we have a bit of javascript which checks if the framed pages have been brought up without their frames, and if so, jumps to the frames page (this is yucky, and we'll change the whole thing to tables soon, but anyway...) also, the web server redirects automatically if a trailing / is not given for a directory name... currently, both of these redirects are leaving the user on our secondary domain rather than our primary... if you go to, for example, http://www.alz.co.uk/alz you end up on the right page, but with our 'other' domain in the address bar... just wondered why that is and if it can be changed easily? michael

You'll need to talk to Demon about getting it adjusted. James.

Cor! Shades of the old JANET Colour Book Software method of specifying
relays: the list of all the known nodes on JANET (which included not a
few uk.co.demon.* addresses) used to include a switch designating a known
relay for reaching the node (if it actually was NOT on JANET).
The version of software used on VAXen for updating with this information
used somehow to associate all of those sites that went through
uk.ac.earn-relay (Rutherford Labs) with the sitename of the *last* one in
the list. This could result in many institutions attempting to pump many
megabytes a day (gigabytes hadn't been invented then, at least not for
network throughputs:-) for all sorts of sites through some poor little
organization that had only a 64kb/s (or even less) connection.
I have a vague feeling that Peter Ilieve was one of those affected by
this unwelcome traffic, BICBW.
[Post originally in demon.ip.www, but now off-topic, so cross-posted and
follow-ups to demon.service and uk.telecom, although it's not very
on-topic in those places either, save for the Peter Ilieve connection.]

Was this a reply to something else? I can't quite see the connection
between a web-server's configuration file being automatically
generated from some input data, and JANET Colour Book mail
configurations.
Maybe it's just me,
(not cross-posted to uk.telecom. Follow-ups set to demon.service)
James.
