The Megabytes Cybercafe Share Opportunity
-oOo-
In The Beginning - by Adam Eccles
As you may know it has long been my ambition to open a cybercafe, for those
that don't know, a cybercafe is some computers, a fast internet connection,
some good food and coffee, some helpful staff and a wonderful atmosphere.
Last year I thought deeply about opening a cafe and because of the
beautiful countryside, friendly people and attractive looking grant aid I
chose Galway in Ireland as a potential site.. I did a lot of work and
research and spent a lot of time and money trying very hard to do this.
I came back from Ireland at the beginning of November last, disappointed
and miserable and looking for investors. The banks in Ireland (and here)
require you to have a considerable lump of the required startup capital
before they will even consider loaning you any more money, some also
require you to have a house as security. I have none of these, being a
humble chef in a low paid job in Cornwall.
An investor did show up, and he wanted to do things his way, I didn't care
much at the time because I am willing to do almost anything to get this off
the ground, however he faded away into the night and never answered mails,
never phoned never looked at faxes. when I finally got in touch the
message was clear, that he had backed out.
So, for a time I more or less gave up, having put everything into it and
not got anywhere morale was low. then I told James Savage (CountB) about
the idea, and he was very interested..
He inspired me, and the enthusiasm is back... We are both intelligent
people, I *know* we can run this place standing on our heads (James might
find this a tad tricky) but the main problem we have is we just don't have
the cash to startup with, the banks won't help even if we can come up with
grants, because they want to see that the individuals involved put in some
money of their own.
Its apparently some kind of safeguard that we don't run away to Jamaica one
day. (James might find this hard too)
We estimate that to do this properly it would cost between 30 and 80
thousand UKP depending on how we sort the computers and the premises we
find.
When I went to Lloyds the other day they thought they might be interested
in backing us if we could come up with *some* money.
I imagine that if we can come up with about 10 or 15 thousand UKP the bank
will help, they say ideally they will need half the startup to come from
us, well.... we can kinda work on that, it really depends on how much the
premises cost, we can lease the computers and we can decorate the place
cheap, the advertising will be free!
The business plan is currently being adapted from the Irish version by
James.
So we offer you the chance to own a share in our business, I shall have to
check out the legalities and make sure that the bank will accept this as
our money.
This is something for you to think about... at 100 UKP per share you are
helping two entrepreneurs realise a dream and setup the coolest cybercafe
in the world today.

We have a dream!
Adam Eccles business background:
At age 16 I opened a little burger bar with my Father, called MegaBites, we
had a very short lease and this and other problems caused MegaBites to be a
6 month project, I expect Megabytes2 to have longer lasting freshness..
I have now been in the catering industry for approx 6 years, 3 years of
catering college and 4 years working at the Abbey hotel have given me an
insight into the 'oldest' profession..
My computer interest stems back from early life, when i was 8 years old i
was programming in basic.. and although I have no formal qualifications in
this field i learn fast and do little else in my spare time, ( as you well
know :))
My interest in the Internet comes from my first visit (with leCHEF) to
Cyberia, the innovative cybercafe in London, you know the rest.
James Savage background:
At age 21 I graduated from Cheltenham & Gloucester College with an Honours
Degree in Business Computer Systems and Computing. During my three years at
C&GCHE I completed both a HND, an honours degree and was a gold medalist in
the BTEC Award Scheme.
Since leaving college I have been unable to gain employment since due to
petty attitudes and discrimination. I have done part time work doing DTP,
technical support for Zen Internet and am now a freelance web page author.
My interest in computers started when my parents bought me a ZX Spectrum in
1983. Since then I have become a trained programmer and software designer,
and own three different systems.
At college I was encouraged to dial-in to the mainframe so that I could
work at home. This soon led to the discovery of the internet, and after
three years I am thoroughly addicted, spending several hours online each
day.

We shall of course promote our environmental feelings in the cafe, as well
as our desire to see more women and more disabled people on the internet.
Training evenings and helpful staff will hopefully bring this about.
So, if you're interested we would love to hear from you, if you're not
convinced then mail us and we'll talk you round.
We know we can make a go of this, We shall put 113% into it, long hours and
hard work are nothing new to Adam. cooking and computers is all i have
done for the last 6 years... Computers and networks is all James has done
for the last 12 years.
Just 100 is all we ask.. and you won't regret it...
