On 06-Jul-97 14:59:13, Mike Harrison is reputed to have said something about Master & Slave Seagate IDE Drives,. >Hello, >I have a Seagate ST3491A 3.5" IDE hard drive in my A1200, and I also have >a Seagate ST9096A 2.5" IDE hard drive lying around unused. I also have an >old Fujitsu SCSI hard drive hooked up via a surf squirrel. >I use the Fujitsu as my 'net drive at present, but it is rather slow >(600 - 700 KB/s). >It occurs to me that the 2.5" IDE drive is a) quite a bit faster and b) >pretty much worthless in trade-in terms, so I was wondering if it >was possible to connect the two IDE drives as master and slave (either >way round is o.k.) and get some use out of it. >I have the manufacturers booklet for the ST3491A, but not the ST9096A. >I don't know if it's possible to mix 2.5 and 3.5 drives in this way. >Any ideas, anyone? It is possible to mix `n' match. I had an IBM 345Mb and ??Western Digital Cavalier in the same machine in the same line. I just hacked the 44 pin cable to 40 as replaced the 2nd 44 pin in line. The Cavalier was the slave, the IBM the master. No problems at all. I realise that this does not answer your question as to the above drives, but at least you know it's possible.
