Can you help me turn the Amiga <Tables>?

Hi all,
I wanted to create a webpage where you could see the release dates
of various "important" Amiga games between the years 1985-1995; 11 years
or so. I wanted to include various political events, and maybe some
film/music releases as well to create a feeling of what was going on in
the world when "X" was released.
...sad isn't it. :)
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that I want the format to be severeal horizontal
screen widths (you would scroll across to cover the entire period) and the
use of html table to hang things together. This is where my problems
begin, my web kung fu is pretty poor, and things aren't looking correct.
Basically, I want the top row to be divided into 11 equal sections over
say 11 screen widths, each with a year inside.
Under that I want 44 columns (4 per year) with perhaps 10 rows each.
This way the 4th column should coincide vertically with the end of each
year, if you see what I mean.
My first Table (the years) do not use the space equally, and my second
Table (games and events) don't match the years, can anyone help?
I've shoved my early effort below, try not to laugh too much, please. :)

Any particular reason you need all 11 years on one page rather than a
page for each?

Anyway, if you do want to do it that way, I think your problem is trying
to use 2 tables when you only need one. To do what you are trying in a
single table try:
<TABLE>
<TR>
<TH COLSPAN="4">Year 1</TH><TH COLSPAN="4">Year 2</TH> etc...
</TR>
<TR>
<TD>section1</TD><TD>section2</TD><TD>section3</TD><TD>section4</TD>
<TD>section1</TD><TD>section2</TD><TD>section3</TD><TD>section4</TD>
etc..
</TR>
<TR>
<TD>section1</TD><TD>section2</TD><TD>section3</TD><TD>section4</TD>
<TD>section1</TD><TD>section2</TD><TD>section3</TD><TD>section4</TD>
etc..
</TR>
</TABLE>
This will give you a header line where each column takes the space of 4
columns under it.
HTH,
Chris

Dave and Chris thank you for your follow-ups.

I just kind of liked the scrolling through the years concept. :)

Thank you both, I've taken onboard what you've said, and used your html
which does the trick. Much appreciated. :)

Not a problem.

Yeah, I can live with that :-)

Brought about by much trial and error, not to mention banging of heads
on walls etc.. over the years.
When you start getting into dynamic content using databases and PHP
things really start to get interesting :-)

Nice of you to put it that way, but I've got another stupid question....
:)
You've got the 11 years in TH row along the top, and then under that
several columns of 44 cells (4 to a year) Some cells will have more text
in than others, is there a simple way I can keep all the cells in all the
rows, the same width, and remain 4 to a year? Table has a length of 1100%
so a screen width equals a year, BTW. I've tried shoving in the width
2.5% in the TD field, but I'm probably doing something wrong. :-/
