Quite possibly. They do use different Network Access Servers; Green uses
3Coms and Red/Purple use Ascends. So just try Red (0845 0798666).

Using a 3Com Courier, which is a decent modem, I connect at 52k or 54k to
Green, 50k or (mostly) 52k to Red, but I use Red because in my experience
it's much more reliable, and at 52k pushes the data through as fast as
Green at 54k.

But it will depend on where you're calling from, because that changes the
telco path. And it definitely depends on the NAS at the other end. My
daughter uses a graphite iMac and gets 45k to Virgin but was telling me
last night that they're getting 34k or 36k to Claranet.

It will also depend on what else you have connected to your line. The
figures I gave above were for when the modem was sharing the line with a
Sharp fax machine. It broke, and I exchanged it for a Brother fax; the
connect speed to Red dropped to 45k to 49k. If I disconnect the Fax it goes
straight back to 52k. This is no desperate hardship, but if I'm going to do
a large download, I certainly disconnect the Brother.
