Summarising my replies so far:

Disk cache: Should be *minimum* except for any particular purpose which
accesses the disk a lot.  1MB cache is good for fast floppy access,
especially with SpeedyFinder7 loaded.  ClarisWorks & FileMaker Pro
benefit from being allocated 2MB each, never mind the system cache.

DarkSide quitting unexpectedly, also failed Restart or Shutdown:
Unknown conflict.
