I wonder if anyone else has had my problem, and whether anyone knows a
solution.

A new G3 300 blue and white (64 MB RAM), with a USB connected Epson stylus
740 will not run properly if background printing is enabled. The print is
very very slow, with halts for a few seconds every few lines, and this
happens with MS Word 6 or with SPSS (for statistics), even if there is 30MB
free RAM, and 5 GB hard disc space free. If background printing is 'off' it
runs fast and normally. I know soemeone with the same problem on an iMac.

The USB drivers are the ones supplied on the Apple operating CD, which are
apparently the latest version.  Epson (for 70p a minute on 'phone) say that
it is a known problem, and advise me to switch off background printing!!
But I do need background printing, as so many of us do.

Any thoughts, or any help would be most welcome. Many thanks in advance.
