Can't solve your problem directly, but I would strongly recommend switching
to another mail client - you'll be very glad you did.

I had the misfortune of using Outlook for the first time recently, and it
is the worst email client I have ever seen bar none.

I recommend Claris Emailer, but Eudora is also pretty good.
