First draft of a potential uk.comp.sys.mac RFD. was Re: UK Mac newsgroup?

This follows on from a discussion in demon.tech.mac that raised the idea
of creating a UK-specific Mac news group.

I've read some docs and hacked a current uk.* newsgroup proposal into
something that looks vaguely suitable, and cross-posted it to all the UK
ISP's Mac newsgroups that anyone could think of.

Any thoughts from anyone?

Rowland.

------------------------------ RFD below ------------------------------

Name of proposed newsgroup: uk.comp.sys.mac

Newsgroups Line:
uk.comp.sys.mac UK Mac users' discussion group

Proponent: Rowland McDonnell <my email address removed to avoid spam>

Initial time for discussion: 10 days

Rationale: uk.comp.sys.mac
- - - --------------------------

There are a number of Mac-specific newsgroups in hierarchies specific to
various UK ISPs. These are useful, but the number of Usenet active Mac
users posting to any one of these groups is small, and not all of these
groups are generally accessible. A result of this is that, for example,
demon.tech.mac gets a lot of posts from non-Demon users. This is a
situation that seems to be well accepted, but is clearly not ideal.

It therefore seems sensible to create a single newsgroup for all UK Mac
users to give a logical focus to discussions that would otherwise be
cross-posted to several groups and which would benefit from
consideration by any UK Mac user.

Charter: uk.comp.sys.mac
- - - ------------------------

uk.comp.sys.mac is for the discussion of issues relating to Apple's
Macintosh computers (Macs). Contributions are welcome from people who:
use Macs; and live, work, study, or mean to visit the UK.

Commercial advertising is unwelcome, although a company reference in a
signature not exceeding four lines is acceptable.

Announcements that are of direct and specific relevance to UK Mac
users are welcome provided that they are specific to the UK but not
specific to one ISP; and are also: essential for some UK Mac users,
important for many UK Mac users, or useful for all UK Mac users.

With the exception of PGP signatures, the posting of binaries or other
encoded data files is not permitted. However references to relevant web
URL's or FTP sites are welcome.

Cross-posting to or from the comp.sys.mac hierarchy is unwelcome, unless
directing a post to/from uk.comp.sys.mac and the comp.sys.mac hierarchy
with follow-ups set accordingly.

Moderate cross-posting with good reason between uk.comp.sys.mac and
other UK and Mac specific newsgroups is acceptable. `Moderate' should
be taken to mean `not more than one or two other newsgroups'.

The group will not be moderated.
