We have a 6100, currently running of an external hd since the internal one
failed, no great problem that, it is running 7.6.1
problem is that it will not see any cd's unless a system cd is in the
drive at bootup, then it will see anything that goes in it, but if it
booted with an empty cd it wont see anything in it, scsi probe sees it
but wont mount it.
I wondered if any one had comeacros this before, I am going to try another
drive in it next week, but if anyone has any thoughts.....

Looks like you don't have the "Apple CD-ROM" extension in your Extensions
folder. You need this to use CDs on your Mac. Make sure it's present and
turned on in the Extensions Manager.

The exception is when you start up with a *bootable* cd in the drive; then
it'll load a driver from that and doesn't absolutely need the extension,
as you have witnessed.

Also, to use non-Mac CD formats, you need Foreign File Access and its
associated files.

If you still can't get it to work, you can download and install the latest
version of the "CD-ROM Setup Software" from Apple at:

http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n10204

which should install all needed files automatically.

Hope this helps,
