I'm running os 8.1 on an old LC 475. Up 'till now it's been fine. Now I'm having a problem with the mouse/cursor, which occasionally freezes on screen. When I unplug and then replug the mouse in, it works again, but slowly, so I have to restart the Mac. Maybe an hour or so later, it'll do the same thing... Is this a mouse problem, a keyboard problem, or something else? Any help appreciated. Marc -- Redemption, Jezebel & Purgatory http://www.redjez.demon.co.uk

It's probably a mouse problem. However, if you keep on unplugging and plugging in your mouse with the power on, eventually it'll become a permanant motherboard problem - the (non-replacable without a soldering iron) fuse in the ADB circuitry will blow. ADB is *not* hot-swappable, although it will work most of the time. I'd suggest you try using a different mouse for a while. Paul Durrant

If you have an Apple monitor and use the pass-through ADB ports, try connecting the keyboard/mouse directly to the Mac. There is a control strip module called 'jolt mouse' or something like (try doing a search at www.download.com) that which will re-enable normal mouse speed without having to restart your Mac. You'll probably find that the problem will get worse over time, so a new mouse will probably be required.

If it's just a cable problem, it's not hard to replace if you're handy
with a soldering iron.
Rowland.

Sounds peculiar, but I would recommend using disk first aid to see if there is a problem with the HD. You might want to rebuild the desktop too (Do you do this weekly?) Have you cleaned the scuzz out from the rollers inside the mouse?
