Slow Mac problem

I have a Performa 6200 with the maximum 64mb of RAM installed, running OS8.0.

I'm suddenly having problems when viewing web pages from my hard disk
using Netscape Navigator - It takes ages for even a simple page to load.
It worked fine up until recently.

Any suggestions?

Check for disk fragmentation using your LaCie disk utility,and tell it
to defragment... well I have that one with my external HD.. My internal
Hard disk
started giving the same problems, and DiskFirst Aid told me that I had
Bad spots on the disk...so it's goin' bad and eventually will be all
useless...

To avoid using your hard disk so intensively:
Add a command to the user preferences which enables RAMcaching within
netscape...then turn off disk caching...It stopped banging so hard on my
disk drive when I did that...I have a cablemodem..Use BBEdit and (Any files)..
go.. System Folder->Preferences-->Netscape Users-->(user)-->Netscape Preferences

add the following ..

user_pref("browser.cache.memory_cache_size", 12288);

Be sure Netscape is not running, It rewrites this file when You exit.
I lost my password to my mail account when I did this, though; fortunatly
I had it written  down!

Nothing terribly specific - I'd start by running Disk First Aid/Norton
Disk Doctor/TechTool Pro to check the HDD. Then I'd re-build the
desktop. If no joy, flush Netscape's cache and re-install the thing.
Defrag the HDD if you've got something that'll do that. Maybe zap PRAM
using TechTool.

Have you recently played with your cache RAM settings? Installed any
new software?

You might try asking on uk.comp.sys.mac.
