X-Link 33.6 Internal Modem from Novatech - Help Needed

I purchased an X-link Internal 33.6bps modem from Novatech which although
it works satisfactorily, I have been unable to connect to Demon at any
speed greater that 26400bps.

I have the port set at 115.660bps and all other parameters set as suggested
by the Demon Win95 setup instructions, but nothing I do can induced the
modem to connect at any higher speeds.

I have tried it on the Energis and COLT numbers with the same result.

I would be most grateful for any advice as to how to rectify this problem
whilst I still have some hair to pull out!!!!
