I have an external Mr Modem at 33.6k
I believe it was origially 28.8 but when I brought I at live 96 It had
a 33.6k sticker on the box. seems to work quite well
based I believe on the rockwell chip set . sorry dont know where you
can get yours modified but I know it is possible
connects without fail on 28.8 demon lines 
and also no problems on the beta 33.6 and a noticable speed
improvement
