.. kinda depends on what you're using your machine for!
SMTP and POP services for sending/receiving mail (depending on
the mail client.
.. hang on - someone answered this query for me a while back...
Ah! Repeated from {R}'s post:
-----------------
a) If you use Demon's SMTP mail receipt then when the first mail
arrives,AtGuard will ask you if you want to permit it - you do
Help it make a rule: Always accept, port 25 from demon, don't log.
If you use POP3 then when you start it AtGuard will ask again:
Always allow port 110 (pop3) to demon, don't log.
When you send mail: always allow. port 25(smtp) to Demon, don't
log.
That's mail done (sometimes if you use SMTP you may get the
other PUNT, just let it in)
For news let it in and out only to Demon on the 119 nntp port.
Let your browser talk to any port 80 (http) and 443 (https)
These are the basics, if in doubt let echo requests, and echo
replies in and out session by session.
If it comes up with any warnings of things you don't understand
Block it and ask here, you can always undo a rule.
--------- end of repeat (apologies to {R} for reproduction without
prior permission, but he originally posted it publicly) -----------
ISTR someone had a URL of a site that had a few of these rules
with examples - anyone remember it?
