🚀 go-pugleaf

I've just set up a m/c from scratch, with Win98SE.  It is on a two m/c
peer-to-peer network via a cross-over cable.  When I try to access the
network, a BSOD appears with a message 'VREDIR (03)'  called from
'VREDIR (01)' or somesuch.  (The machine is not accessible at the
moment, and I didn't write the exact message down).

Pressing the space-bar makes it go away, and it's 50-50 whether the
network is accessible or not.  Each m/c has it's own IP, and when it's
all going eventually fine, it stays fine, until shutdown.  Then it's the
old hanging shutdown, which I haven't seen for about a year, and
completely forget how to cure.

I'm sure it's something to do with the networking bit, at which I'm a
comparative newbie, though I have checked my bindings etc.  (using
NETBEUI not TCP/IP) I'm not using ICS, or anything else that I can think
of that might interfere.

Re-installing Windows does not cure.

Anyone out there got any thoughts?  I've done an admittedly quick search
on deja, and nada.

TIA for any pointers (even to manuals to FR).
