I use a decent stripper (about 10 quid RS), a cheap crimper
(about 12-15 quid maplin) and a cheap cable tester (about 35
quid maplin). The crimper relies upon the bruises in my hand
to control the pressure. :) Best buy is the cable tester. I've
never had a subsequent cable failure after passing my cable
test. Only small sample of around 50 cables.

I do also buy cheap cables (2,3or 5 metre) for about 3-4 quid
as its cheaper. But it is handy to have the wherewithall to
make custom lengths.
