I have just replaced my old motherboard with a new BX board and a
Celeron 300 in a PPGA slocket adapter. Board is a Jetway VIA ATX board
based on a VIA chipset.

When the system warms up, the PC works fine with no problems. However,
when the machine is turned on from cold, it may hang at the Windows boot
screen, or sometimes it works fine until I try to start a PPP
connection, where it seems to hang after a few K have passed down the
modem :(

Having already sent the board back (was completely dead), I am reluctant
to bother the company I purchased the components from until I have
properly diagnosed the problem (they took ages to replace the board -
said they had to test it first). This is further complicated by the fact
that we are currently testing trade outlets (for QoS etc...), and this
happened to be part of a small order from one :(

I have tried a fresh Win98 installation, but it made no difference so I
returned to the previous installation (all device drivers for m/b are
correctly installed, including the IRQ routeing/UDMA drivers from via
systems).

Also in the system:
96 mb PC 66 SDRAM
S3 Trio 64V+ (PCI) <- could this be suspect?
voodoo1 <- this can get *very* hot when the cpu pushes it ;)

Adaptec SCSI scanner card (can't remember model no)
1 x WDC 6.4 GB HD
1 x Fujistu 2.5 GB HD
1 x BTC 40x CD ROM
1 x Mitsumi 8x2 CDr
