There is no universal support of 132 column text modes, in SVGA cards, and no universal mode of enabling it. As explained in the documentation that comes with kermit, and probably also in the book, kermit will go into 132 column mode for a small range of cards for which explicit support has been coded and for any card for which there is a VESA driver present (my card has this in the video BIOS) which supports the VESA 132 column text mode. It will also go into a simulated 132 column mode if you set the right options to allow it to emulate it with graphics modes. You can also write your own programs to put it into and out of 132 column mode if you can find specific command sequences for your video card. The ones I wrote are less than 10 byte .COM files. The PC Interrupts Book (also available as less formatted text on the net) was where I got the programming data for the card's BIOS. -- David Woolley, London, England david@djwhome.demon.co.uk
