The May "Computer Shopper" included the Iomega in a review of backup /
archive devices. It did not exactly get a glowing review. The drive was
described as comparatively slow (about 3.5 MB per min. via parallel
port), with too low a capacity for most backups (95 MB per disk) and
using expensive media (about 17 quid).

Having seen one in action at my local Byte store, however, I think this
judgement was quite harsh. In fact, I ended up buying one :-) The drive
is very easy to switch between machines - as a method for backing up
several standalone PCs, it seems quite attractive. Most incremental
backups will fall within the capacity of a single disk. The ability to
quickly restore individual files (IMHO the commonest type of restore
request from developers and usually a pain with tape systems) is a big
plus.

The Shopper review described the Iomega Zip drive as "commercially
successful" and also included two other Iomega devices, both tape
drives.

PS: Why are computer magazines released so far ahead of their cover
dates? The May Shopper was on the shelves on the 2nd of April !
