In article <245033044wnr@roborat.demon.co.uk>, Dave Scott <dave@roborat.demon.co.uk> writes >How about some sort of league table of good vs.bad mentions of companies, >possibly publishing the results on a web page? Possibly allowing >submissions via the page, with some sort of rating system (say -10 to +10 >to indicate how well the company fulfilled the order)? > >I know, it would need someone with the time, inclination and ability (not >to mention a web account) to do this - but it would be _bloody_ useful. >Any thoughts? I agree it would be useful ! Been here, done some of this... A year odd ago, a couple of us started a FAQ to do this stuff. Between being bogged down with work and fear of persecution / prosecution if we screwed up the legal aspects, we never got around to publishing it, though I still collect info for it in the hope of putting things together one day. If you or anybody else wants to take our provisional stuff and give it a home on a web site, I think we'd go for that. We didn't go for league tables; we mostly just summarised what people said on the net from this and the uk.forsale newsgroup. We'd quote horror stories as warnings if things looked iffy, but we didn't do any statistical analysis. ( On reflection I can't really see a legal proble here as all we are doing is summarising comments that have already been placed in the public domain. ) I guess if we published a form for participants to complete and email to us each time they ordered something, we could analyse them automatically and mechanically generate a FAQ and HTML file showing the results.
