Don't know, never installed NT on a IDE system. But in my experience NT
can be fussy about the hardware. If its not on the HCL, there is no
guarantee that it will work. Because NT uses it own 32-bit disk driver
to access DOS formated disks, I would imagine that it is the disk manager
causing the problem.
Seeing as you have a newish motherboard, I assume that drives > 540 meg
should not be a problem, thus I would try reformatting the drive.

The sound blaster definitly does work, the driver comes on the 3.51 CD.
Again I have not tried the Creative CD-ROM drive, but I installed
on a Panasonic 562 using its own controller, I believe that these drives
are the same.

Depends on what you are trying to do. Personally I prefer NT over OS/2
but then again I haven't tried NT with a 8 meg PC.
