FIRST QUESTION

I have recently been encountering some intractable problems in Windows 3.11.

486-6DX2
DS 64 4 MB VRAM (256K colours for safety) IRQ 2 off
16 MB 70ns RAM
16 bit Sound Blaster DMA 1, H220, H330, IRQ 7
Mouse on COM1
Internal v34 Modem on COM2
WD8003 Ethernet Card IRQ 5
PROMISE DC200 IDE Cache Controller + 2MB RAM

I'm not sure, but think there may be a problem with the modem. Going
into Qmodem did not produce the expected OK, but a message that Carrier
was Detected. This seemed to go away when the the Soundblaster was pulled
out. Is it safe to use IRQ 7 even though its usd by LPT1:?

The PROMISE DC200 is set in Turbo Mode for deferred write, so the
Western Digital calls in SYSTEM.INI have been ;'d out and the
correct .386 lines inserted to ensure that the card works optimally
in Windows.

However, I'd be grateful if someone could cast an eye over the above
cards and suggest what *might* be the best IRQ, DMA and RAM addresses
to set them to.

SECOND QUESTION

Why do I get a message saying I am very low on memory when I set the DS64
to 16M Colours and 640 x 480? There are 16MB of EDO RAM in the system.
I understand this may be a limitation on te 64K which is a GUI resource.
can this be altered?
