Q1. Why do you require 2 modems on the same com port ?

Q2. How would you intend selecting between the 2 modems if not manually ?

I know that some 'auto-switches' simply switch to the a connection that raises a
contol line and becomes free when the control line is dropped; while others simply
switch when any data is present and time-out when quiet for a determined period of
time.

The only way I can see this working is either:

 i) switch on the required modem, thus raising DSR or CTS (hardly automatic)

ii) the modems are auto-answering and 'switch' when one of modem sends text such as
RING, CARRIER or CONNECT or whatever.

I am aware of some smart-switches that come with some software (pop-up-menus ?) which
runs on the PC, but I have no experience of these, perhaps someone else can give
information on their suitability.

Good luck,
