3 methods I know for dropping the call which are fairly common to most modems:
i) configure the modem with AT&D2 either in the init-string in the software, or
save into the power-on default (NVRAM) settings by using AT&W to save current
settings. The modem cable must be cabled for DTR (Data Terminal Ready pin-20 on
25 way D-type or pin-4 on 9 way D-type) and DTR must be held high for modem to
dial/answer; the modem should hangup whenever the software drops DTR, even if for
a couple of seconds.
ii) issuing the command ATH0 (or just ATH) while online should hangup, to get to
the modem's command prompt it is usual to type +++ (3 plus's) with no other
characters sent for a second (or 2 ?) either before of immediately after. The
modem should respond with it's usual OK prompt at which the ATH0 can be typed.
Usually this can also be set up in the 'hangup string' or something similar in the
software.
iii) I guess that the modem is internal - because switching off the modem is the
fastest and surest way of dropping the call - but not recommended since it can
cause problems at the 'other end' on some systems.
