Er. Fine monitor: competition must /really/ hate Iiyamas pricing.

o E denotes surface-mount iirc, but that wasn't a problem before.
Also higher bandwidth: probably an (important) bit better at 1280.
o Shorter VDU-Depth is welcome considering past/existing desk-design.
(17" unit falling on the knees isn't fun, nor is lost keyboard space).

o Criticisms?
o Some prefer (+/-) buttons for >each< function they can alter. Ah:-
    - Unless the monitor is shared, adjustments are >rare<.
    - Anyone doing graphics work will not thank anyone who alters VDU
settings after they've "calibrated" a monitor to output-devices.

o As-before re inevitable geometry differences re FST & Trinitron:
    - Trinitron tube is a section of a cylinder .'. flat in one plane.
Maybe; I'm not paying ~60% of the cost again for it.
    - Stripe-pitch chosen for Trinitron usually means a lower max-res'n
cf. FST counterparts (1280x1024 pushes many Trinitrons). See FAQ.

o Res'ns/Refresh:
    - 8617A 80Hz at 1280 (doc specs), 1600x1200 is possible but
only up to 66/67Hz and is basically unusable on 17".
    - 9017E Better image at 1280x1024, perhaps important.
I'd suggest the best max-resn for the 8617A/E is 1152.

Take a look before you buy. You may prefer an NEC ... or Sony ... or ...
