In my personal opinion, I think that the decision over either Intel/AMD/Cyrix, mainly lies in compatibility with existing software. Clearly, Intel charge much higher prices than the mainstream competitors, and their explanation for this is 'you cannot beat a genuine Intel x86 processor'. Fact is, few processor errors have been found with AMD and Cyrix, and their x86 clone code has been found to be relatively error free. If you are looking for one of the faster 486s on the market, Cyrix for example, is probably a better bet since they make DX2-80s, whereas Intel do not. The motherboard has to support a clock speed of 40Mhz though. All I can say is, if you have plenty of money to invest, go for the Pentium (i.e. if your motherboard supports it) - this is clearly the most futureproof of them all. At the very least, the Pentium Overdrive is a good option if your motherboard is more than 2 years old. Dave
