I have a 486-66 with a Diamond Stealth 32 graphics card running wfw3.11.
The problem is that periodically it either locks up or an application
crashes usually saying "xyz caused an error in stlth32.drv". When it
locks up pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del gets the "system busy or unstable"
message. Pressing enter usually gets the "xyz caused an error in
stlth32.drv" message, the application closes and the system apparently
carries on as though nothing had happened. Restarting the application
straight away, rather than rebooting, doesn't seem to make it any more
likely to cause further problems.
I upgraded my motherboard a few months back (from a UC4914-G, made by
who knows who, fitted with an Intel 486SX 33 to a PAT48PG, made by TMC
whoever they are, fitted with an IBM 486DX2 66. I'm pretty sure this was
when the problem started.
I have also found that the problem goes away if I use the standard
windows SVGA drivers, so far as I know I have the latest Diamond driver.
I tried a Tseng driver which I downloaded, this was as bad as the
Diamond one.
This all leads me to thing that it must be either a faulty mother board
or an incorrect BIOS setup. I have noticed that on this M/B two of the
VL
slots are labelled "Master/Slave" and the other "Slave" I have a QD6580
VL IDE card, so does it matter which is in which slot. The only thing
along these lines that I could find in the Stealth manual was that
"video shadowing" should be turned off in the BIOS setup, I turned off
"video BIOS shadowing" (is this the same) but it made no difference.
Can anybody out there shed any light on this?
