Just to get my tuppence worth, the few times I have had machines die, was due to the processor being dead. This happened when fitting heat sinks, fans, plugging in and out of ZIF sockets but these shouldn't be a problem on a 386. You could always think about it tho'. Andy -- ZX81 -> 800XL -> 520ST -> PC. Where did I go wrong ?
